Art above a sofa usually looks wrong for one simple reason: the composition is too small for the furniture below it. Start with the sofa width, not the empty wall. Then choose one large print, a pair or a compact gallery wall that reads as a single shape.

The 60–75% width rule

As a practical starting point, aim for a total artwork width of roughly 60–75% of the sofa. A 72-inch sofa suits about 43–54 inches of art; an 84-inch sofa about 50–63 inches; and a 96-inch sofa about 58–72 inches. For a group, include the gaps between frames in that total width.

Hang the composition as one object

Keep the lower edge visually connected to the sofa rather than floating near the ceiling. Six to ten inches above the back is a useful test range, but tall cushions, panelling and picture lights may justify a little more space. Tape the full outline on the wall before ordering.

Deal check: the three options below were available and marked 15% off on 29 July 2026. The shop says frames are not included and lists standard print sizes up to 24 × 36 inches. Prices, sizes and promotions can change. Vestados readers can also try code TOINESCHOENMAEK for 10% off; the shop decides whether it combines with another promotion.

Best as one deliberately scaled focal piece. The quiet composition works when the sofa and textiles already carry enough visual detail.

The no-regret ordering check

Measure the sofa, calculate the target width range, tape the outer edge of the composition and photograph it from the room entrance. Only then choose print sizes. For multiple frames, add every frame width plus every gap before comparing the result with the sofa.
